RACINE — Hugh “Drippy” Edwards Hattix earned his wings on Thursday, May 16, 2019 in his home surrounded by his loves ones. He was born on June 20, 1955 in New Albany, MS to Charles H. and Annette (nee Martin) Hattix.
Hugh attended Washington Park High School and later earned an associate degree from Mississippi Delta College. His employment journey started at J.I. Case Company as a young man; he has enjoyed being part of some of the best companies in the country which have included Jacobson Industry of Racine and Ferguson Crane of St. Louis, where he was a quality control inspector. Always armed with a great story and willing to share his life experiences with others; Hugh was a lover of fishing, hunting and playing his casino games. Sweet and kind hearted, strong, loving smile, are just a few of the words that are used to describe him. He always had a great love for his family and friends.
He will be dearly missed by his devoted and loving wife, Jo Ann (nee: Hunter); daughter/special granddaughter, Nijeria B. Hunter of Racine; sons Jason Hunter of Milwaukee and Ahmad (Edwina) Hattix of Racine; daughter Kendra Williams of Kalamazoo, MI.
Brothers and sisters, Charles (Geraldine) Hattix of Blue Springs, MS; Sharon (Joe) Wright of Killeen, TX; Kenneth (Laura) Hattix of Bakersville, CA; Debra Hattix of Racine; Tammie (Matthew) Covington of Killeen, TX; Larry (Stephanie) Hattix, Leesburg, VA; father-in-law, William E. Hunter of Racine; sisters-in-law, Pamela Hunter and Rosalind Hunter of Racine, and Cheryl (Galen) Nelson of Kenosha; brother-in-law, William A. (LaVetta) Hunter of Racine; Johnny R. Davidson of Racine a very dear and close friend, someone whom Hugh thought of as a brother; close friends Stephano Jones, JC Owens, Taurin Brandon, Kendrick Williams all from St. Louis; special family members; Aunt Ola Anderson of Texas; Uncle Thomas (Mary) Hattix of Cordova, MS; cousins, Billy (Ann) Cobb, Larry Kirkwood all of Racine and William Suggs of Ohio; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Grandchildren; Kara (Brandon) Brewster, Kedra Pittman, D’Amontae Hattix, Sr., Kaylee Kirksey, Amariah Hattix, Rasheed Foster, Jr., Princess Ford and Kendall Ford; Great grandson, D’Amontae Hattix, Jr.
Hugh was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Annette Hattix; daughter, Shonda Hattix; brothers and sister, Vince B. Hattix Sr. , Derek Hattix, and Elizabeth Hattix; and mother-in-law, Nettie B. Hunter.
A heartfelt thank you to his nephew, Enous Anderson, the paramedics of Station House 4 and 6, the EMT Heart Program, Heartland Hospice and the staff of Ascension Heart Failure staff for their kind and compassionate care given to Hugh and his family.
