
Racine – Irene W. Delfs, 70, passed away at Harmony of Racine on Friday, December 7, 2007. She was born on November 1, 1937, daughter of John and Nadine (nee: Chubick) Wal, Sr. Irene was raised in and attended schools in Youngstown, Ohio, and received a B.A. from Youngstown State University. On October 26, 1957 she was married to Alan Delfs in Youngstown. She earned her M.A. in education from UW-Milwaukee. Irene devoted more than 35 years at Gateway Technical College where she was a Math Instructor since 1966. She enjoyed traveling, especially bus trips to Green Bay; crossword puzzles, and visiting with friends. She is survived by her children, Richard (Donna) Delfs of Union Grove, Susan Delfs of Kenosha, and Janet Delfs of Phoenix, Arizona; granddaughter Heather Delfs of Whitewater, and grandsons Ryan Delfs of Wausau, and Ryan Peil of Union Grove; her former husband and friend, Alan Delfs; brothers, John (Macrina) Wal of Youngstown, Ohio, and Robert (Carole) Wal of Mineral Ridge, Ohio; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her friend and companion, Ralph Miller. Memorial services will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday, December 11, 2007 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Linda Farmer-Lewis officiating. Private internment will take place at West Lawn Memorial Park on Wednesday. All are invited to meet with the family in the funeral home on Tuesday from 9-11 a.m. Memorials to the American Cancer Society have been suggested.
