James Coleman, age 70, passed away on Sunday morning, June 11, 2017. James was born in Helena, Arkansas on August 18, 1946, the son of Prophetess Martha (Nee: Coleman) Payne and the late Edgar Brown, Sr.
He was educated in Helena school and moved to Chicago in 1967. James accepted Christ at an early age, under the leadership of Pastor J.W. Webb at Silver Cloud Baptist Church in Helena, AR. James was an excellent businessman. The Lord blessed his hands to where he owned his own plumbing business until he stopped working in 2009. When James was younger he would drag race, go fishing and hunting. He enjoyed viewing western cowboy movies. He was a strong man and through his trials, tribulations and health issues, he did not complain, he just put his trust in God. Through all of this James still had a great sense of humor which we will all miss.
James is survived by his children, Kenneth, Paula (Lewis), James Lamont, Tara, Debbie, Derrick, James and Kalida; his mother, Prophetess Martha; his siblings, Charles, Shelly, Herman, Edgar Jr, Darlene and Charles Thomas, his grandkids, great-grandkids, Step-Mom Gertie Brown, uncles, aunts, cousins and his best friend Helen. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Lindsey Brown and Rosie Chatman, paternal grandparents Johnnie and Olivia Coleman, father Edgar Brown Sr, son Azun Buckner and grandson Deangelo Finley.
A Celebration of his life will be held on Friday, June 16, 2017 at 11:00 am in the chapel of Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home. The visitation will be in the chapel of the funeral home from 10:00am until the time of service.
