
Racine- James "Jim" G. McCarthy, 95, passed away peacefully at Harmony of Racine, under the care of Hospice Alliance, on Sunday June 24, 2012.
Born on February 7, 1917 in Chicago, IL to the late James R. and Mary McCarthy. On May 10, 1941 he married Marie Dennehy and together they had five daughters: Joanne Long, Maureen (Bill) O'Hare, Kathleen Morrison, Mary (Scott Barron) McCarthy and Eileen (Jerry) Russell. Jim had 24 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 9 great, great- grandchildren. Marie preceded him in death on January 29, 2000. In September of 2000, he married Magdalena “Madge” Huck and extended his family with 5 step-children, Larry (Ellen) Huck, Tim (Karen) Huck, Kathy (Jim) Pease, Dan Huck and Jeanine Bozich and many more grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Madge preceded him in death on October 13, 2011.
Jim was a lifelong businessman, owning and running many businesses in Kenosha, Racine and Rochelle, IL. His pride was his Standard Oil gas stations and opening Kenosha's first automated gas station car wash. Jim belonged to the Knights of Columbus – Council 697. A devoted husband, grandfather and great-grandfather, Jim loved baseball, spending time with family and had a passion for chocolate – especially brownies. He was a member of St. Mary by the Lake Catholic Church.
In addition to his parents and wives, Jim was preceded in death by his siblings, William, Olive and Lorain; sons-in-law, James Long and Kevin Huck; daughter-in-law, Melissa Huck; and granddaughter Whitney Fleming.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 29, 2012 at 11 am in St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church (7117 – 14thAvenuein Kenosha) with Rev. Stephen J. Stradinger officiating. Entombment will follow in Calvary Cemetery Garden Crypts. Visitation will be at the church on Friday from 10-11 am. In memory of Jim, memorials to St. Mary’s by the Lake Catholic Church in Racine have been suggested.
