A graduate of JI Case High School “Class of 1976”, he went on to attend University of Wisconsin – Madison. As a compassionate landlord, Jay had a special touch for purchasing and refurbishing hundreds of homes in Racine throughout his career. He was also an enthusiastic member of the Moose Legion #31 Lodge 437 in Racine where he served as a Past-Governor. Jay was a proud member of the Moose 25 Club, signifying that he had recruited at least 25 new members over the years. He was currently the Wisconsin State Vice-President of the Moose. Among his interests, Jay enjoyed sports of all sorts, especially –hunting and shooting pool; visiting with friends at Hansen’s Bar; and was a Chicago Cubs fanatic. Above all, he loved being in the surroundings of his entire family and extensive circle of friends. Surviving are his loving companion and best-friend, Pam Hanson; adored daughter, Erica Nicole Dederich; beloved parents, James and Beverley Dederich; sister, Leah Dederich; his Chocolate Labs, Bubba and Brandy; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends too numerous to mention by name. A public memorial service celebrating Jay’s life will be held a week from this Saturday, March 21, 2009 at 11:00 am at the Racine Moose Lodge Family Center, 5530 Middle Road. Visitation will begin at the Racine Moose on Saturday, March 21st at 10 am. At Jay’s request, all are invited to stay for a reception following the service. A heartfelt note of thanks to Jay’s devoted friends….especially Michael P. Mullane, MD and his entire staff; Scott and Cheryl Hayek; and Jim and Lori Leiting for being there in his time of need. Also, a special thank you to all who were involved and attended Jay’s benefit party at the Moose last April. Jay truly loved each and everyone of you!
