Jill Margaret Herman, 66, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 10, 2021.
She was born in Kenosha, WI on March 21, 1955, to parents Edwin “Hermie” and Margaret (Rakow) Herman. One of five siblings, Jill was the only daughter, and as her father would often joke, his “toughest son.”
Jill attended and graduated Kenosha area schools, graduating from Tremper in 1973. Upon graduating high school, Jill attended UW-Parkside and UW-Madison respectively, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Behavioral Psychology from UW-Parkside and a Master of Science Degree in Consumer Science from UW-Madison. Though she was retired at the time of her passing, Jill worked for many years at Jockey International, American Furniture, Mattel, Jones New York and most recently, Kwik-Trip.
Always witty and with an enthusiastic sense of humor, Jill loved to laugh and recount stories from her experiences growing up. Most of those experiences, included her time spent living in Minneapolis with her best friend, Kathie-whom she often referred to as her ‘sister.’ Jill was an advocate with a deep love and respect for all animals, and she doted on her many fur-babies over the years; most recently, cats Teddy and Charlotte. She had a love of all things cat, especially Garfield, and was proud of her collection of knick-knacks. She enjoyed beading and creating jewelry, knitting, spending time in her yard and chatting with her friend Kathie. Jill was especially proud of her nieces and nephews. She made it a point to be a constant presence in their lives-and to also teach them how to properly draw a cat! Jill loved her family and looked forward to visiting, video-chatting, and catching up with them as often as she could. Often, you could find Jill on coffee dates, at Target or driving around the county looking at cows with her nieces and nephews.
Left to cherish all of her laughter and memories, Jill leaves behind her brothers Tom (Debbie) Herman, St. Louis, MO, Bruce Herman, Somers, WI, Randy (Kathleen) Herman, Madison, WI and Todd (Sandy) Herman, Mount Pleasant, WI; her favorite outing companions, nieces Cheryl (Mike) Stephenson, San Diego, CA, Gretchen (Jason) Herman, St. Louis, MO, Laura De La Rosa, Pleasant Prairie, WI, Brynn (Ryan) Colmer, Daytona Beach, FL, Alexandra (Eric) Herman, Franksville, WI, nephews Lou (Jessie) Aguilera, Georgia, Britton and Adler Herman, Mount Pleasant, WI, and great-nephews and niece Gunnar, Levi, Grayson and Kaedence, as well as many cousins and loving friends.
Jill was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin “Hermie” and Margaret (Rakow) Herman, and uncle, Edward Herman (twin to Edwin and Jill’s favorite buddy, “Hermie #2”).
Though her passing was unexpected and sudden, we find comfort in knowing that she has reunited with her Mom, Dad, and all of her beloved fur-babies; probably listening to Phil Collins and watching Twister or Cats.
Jill’s family will be planning a gathering to celebrate her life when it is safe to do so.
