Kenosha – Jimmy Earl “Pete” “Real Him” Rivers, 66, passed away at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, Illinois on Saturday, November 19, 2016. Jimmy was born on June 24, 1948 in Chicago, and was an Illinois resident for many years. He was married on November 21, 2011 to Chau Huynh. Chau and Jimmy’s relationship was based upon their faith and love for God, and although their marriage was brief, Jimmy will remain in her heart forever.
Jimmy served with honor and pride in the US Army. He was deployed to Viet Nam and was decorated for his performance as a helicopter door gunner. He was an avid fan of all sports, and enjoyed shopping, backyard grilling, and being with family and friends. Jimmy had a big heart and loved helping within our community with the Red Cross, Veteran Support Groups in Chicago, local homeless shelters, and as a member of Journey Church.
His survivors include his wife Chau Rivers of Kenosha; mother Arline York of Alsip, Illinois, son Jarrod Rivers of Fitchburg; and step-son Bao Bui of Kenosha; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Willie Rivers; step-father Ernest P. York; sisters Laverne Morant Dinkins and Virginia Fonsville; and brother Tyrone Rivers.
Funeral services will be held in Kenosha at the Journey Church (10700 75th St) at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 26, 2016. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30a.m. Interment and military honors will take place at 11: a.m. on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to First Step Services Inc.
