
Union Grove – Joan M. Pedersen, 92, received the promise of eternal life on Sunday, July 13, 2014. She was born in Tottenham, England, on May 19, 1922, daughter of the late Alfred and Rosina (nee: Hills) Payne.
Joan served with the British Army and worked in the well-baby clinic. She met her future husband, Arthur Leroy Pedersen, at a dance in Chester England. They were married on January 5, 1946. Joan came to the United States in April of that year. She joined the Overseas Wives Club and enjoyed socializing with them. She worked many jobs during her lifetime including Oster, Porters, and Mitchell Junior High School as a secretary. Joan was a member of Mount Pleasant Lutheran Church. She enjoyed gardening, sewing (especially quilts), knitting (especially afghans), classical music, and reading mysteries or stories that took place in England.
Joan leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Karen Pedersen of Sturtevant; son, Terry (Nancy) Pedersen of Mukwonago; grandchildren, Tonia (Brandon) King of Waunakee, Tammy (John) Webler of Milwaukee; great-grandchildren, Madeline, Bryce, Zachary, Kennedy, Nolan, and Olivia; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Joan is preceded in death by her two sisters, Winifred Weeden, Rosina Gillespie; and nephew, Ian Weeden.
A celebration of Joan’s life will be held on Friday, July 18, 2014, 7:00pm, at Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home and Crematory, 4600 County Line Road. Visitation will be from 5:00pm until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorials to Mount Pleasant Lutheran Church, National Kidney Foundation, or a charity of your choice.
