John Martin, 83, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2017 at United Hospital.
John was born on August 10, 1934 in Tipler, WI, at his family farm and was the son of the late John and Sally Martin. As a young man, John moved to Green Bay and eventually to Kenosha, WI where he met his future wife, Jeanann Frederick.
On July 14, 1956, John was united in marriage to Jeanann Frederick in Kenosha, WI.
John was employed as a truck driver for many years at Benson Oil and then Consolidated Freightways from which he retired in 1997.
John was an avid fisherman and spent countless hours sitting on the shore of Lake Michigan and area lakes with his grandchildren catching fish. He also enjoyed woodworking in his garage, crafting furniture and other wooden items. John was also known for being a friend to the neighborhood and spent many days, snow blowing or cutting grass for his neighbors. John was known by many names, Uncle Roger to his many nieces and nephews and Dad to his loving daughters. However his favorite name was Papa to his 11 grandchildren.
He will be deeply missed by his loving wife Jeanann of 61 years, 5 daughters; Gerri (Mitch) Haberle, Sharon (Jeff Morris) Johanek, Kathy (Ken) Kohler, Mari (Matt) Steagall, Sheila (Scott) King, his 10 grandchildren, Danielle, Allison, Mike, Alex, Jessie, Kaitie, Andrew, Jake, Noah, Ben and great granddaughter Ava, and sister Lucille Wernholm of Iron River, MI. John was proceeded in death by 6 brothers and 4 sisters.
A private service was held.

Baby Sheila says
I love you Dad! I will miss you terribly. I will cherish all the moments we had together as a family and especially the times it was just us. I will always remember the times of going to the bakery and picking out donuts in my GREEN hat that you loved so much, the times of working with you in the garage and handing the tools to you (because of you I know the difference between a Phillips and a flat head screwdriver and don’t worry, there is enough air in my tires), great times fishing, camping, and going up North. I could go on and on… Love you Babe and will never forget you. See you later alligator.

Uncle Roger was a wonderful human being. He always had his hands into a lot of hobbies. He could work with wood and metal. He will be missed.
Jane (Lessman) DeZee says
I am SO SORRY to her of John’s passing. I have SO many good memories of John and Jean. I visited John at the hospital with my late husband on my Wedding Day in my wedding gown. I will ALWAYS remember that New Year’s Eve Party on that EXTREMELY SNOWY January. Jean and Daughters you are in my thoughts and prayers. Some people come into our lives, and leave a footprint on our hearts, and we are so grateful we got the opportunity to have met this GREAT PERSON.
I wish you peace and healing at this time.
With DEEPEST sympathy,
Jane (Lessman) DeZee

Dad
I miss you so much already.
I am so greatfull for all you have done for me,Allison and Alex. All the family times we spent together taught me how important that time is when someone is gone.
Thanks for making me strong to stand up for you when you couldn’t. “The louder the squeaky wheel the more the oil you get” . I had to buy a bottle of old spice to remind me of you when I need a dad hug.
Rest in peace dad until we are all together again.
Love you sharon

I first met John when I was 12 years old. His daughter Mari is my best friend. His sense of humor was infectious! Every time I called there and said “is Mari there?” His reply was always “married, you want to get married? Well I’m already married! “. The other thing he would always asked me for was a pan of mostaccioli and meatballs. Which eventually I did comply and brought him his mostaccioli! John was always kind to all of us girls.
To your whole family, you will find much comfort in all the memories. Keep telling the stories ! That will keep him alive in spirit. Thinking of you all, and sending many good thoughts and prayers your way.

I am a friend of your daughter, Sharon. Even though I only met you a few times, I heard about what a loving, caring, strong person you were. You raised five wonderful girls and have a lovely wife. May you rest in peace.
