Racine – Joseph J. Sorenson, age 44, passed away unexpectedly in his sleep at home on Wednesday, October 9, 2013.
Joe was born in Racine on March 6, 1969 to the late Robert P. and Shirley (nee: Humble) Sorenson. He was a graduate of Walden III High School. On July 2, 1994 in St. John’s Lutheran Church, he was united in marriage with the love of his life, Pamela Ann Chapek.
Joe was an extreme all-around sports fan – especially Brewers, Packers, NASCAR and golf. He was so very proud of his beautiful wife, Pam, and her current 21-year career with the Army National Guard – where she had served in the Iraq War. Thus, Joe was tremendously patriotic and a defender of the United States flag. Joe loved to be in the surroundings of his entire family and extensive circle of friends.
Surviving are his loving wife of 19 years, Pam; daughter, Jennifer Thilleman; brothers and sister, Robert E. Sorenson, Anita (Scott) Witt and Richard J. Sorenson; mother-in-law, Nancy Chapek; brother-in-law, Brian Chapek; nieces and nephews, Kristi (Eric) Houston, Daniel Sorenson, Jessica (Seth) Burton, Dylan Witt, Derek Witt, Ashley Drake, Sean Sorenson, Ricky Sorenson and Brittany Simanek; other special relatives and friends – too numerous to mention by name. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Robert Chapek.
Funeral services will be held in Atonement Lutheran Church, 2915 Wright Avenue, on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at 11:00 am with Rev. Denise Mbise officiating. A luncheon will follow. Cremation will take place following the services and private entombment will be in the American Eagle cremation memorial wall of West Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Tuesday from 4-7 pm and in the church on Wednesday from 10-11 am.
A heartfelt note of thanks to Dr. Michael Mullane, Dr. Robert Brown and to Racine Police & Rescue for the compassionate care and support extended in our time of need. Above all, a sincere note of thanks to the Army National Guard- especially Colonel Schroeder, Captain Koeppen and Chief Serrano for being their for Pam at this difficult time. May God bless all of you!
