SOMERS – On Thursday, January 12, 2017, Mr. Joseph M. Tenuta, 81, passed away at his home, surrounded by family, after a 2 year battle with acute leukemia.
He was born in Kenosha on July 25, 1935, the son of the late Mercurio and Saveria (nee: Murio) Tenuta and the youngest of 10 children. Joe graduated from Mary D. Bradford Class of 1953 and then served his nation with the U.S. Army from 1955-57. On June 7, 1958 he married Marjorie Ann Thieme at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Racine.
Joe worked at American Motors, as well as Christiano Brothers Grocery Store in Racine. He last worked and retired from SC Johnson Wax after 32 years of service. Joe was a longtime member of St. Lucy Catholic Church, The Italian American Club and Roma Lodge. A car enthusiast; he enjoyed collecting and refurbishing. He also collected Hot Wheels. Joe also found joy in visiting casinos, working in his yard and being in the company of his family.
In addition to his loving wife, Marjorie, he is survived by his daughters and son, Susan (David) O’Brien of Sturtevant, Bonnie (Wayne Johnson) Tenuta-Johnson, Michael (Loida) Tenuta both of Racine; his grandchildren, Aisha (Noah) Post, Casey O’Brien, Brianny Tenuta, Valerie Tenuta and Michael Tenuta II; his great grandchildren, Kaden Post and Baby Leah (due on January 17th); his sister, Louise (Alfredo) Greco of Kenosha; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kathleen (Harry) Hansen and John Thieme both of Racine; as well as step grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by 8 brothers and sisters.
Family and friends are invited to meet in the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Thursday evening for a visitation from 4-7 p.m. There will be a Roma Lodge service at 5:00 p.m. The celebration of his life and funeral Mass will take place at St. Lucy Catholic Church (3101 Drexel Ave. Racine) on Friday, January 20, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Javier Guativa officiating. There will also be a visitation in the church on Friday from 10-11 a.m. His interment will take place at West Lawn Memorial Park with military honors following the Mass.
A heartfelt thank you is extended to Dr. Michael Mullane and staff and Aurora Hospice for the exceptional attention Joe received while under their care.
