Racine- Joseph N. Gajan, 68, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, September 22, 2007 following a fearless 10-year battle with cancer. A lifetime Lake Park resident, Joe was born in Racine on December 6, 1938 to the late Joseph and Josephine (nee: Smith) Gajan. On July 30, 1960, Joe was united in marriage with the love of his life, Luise Metzger. Following graduation from Lutheran High School, he faithfully served our Country with the United States Army. Utilizing the printing skills achieved in the Army, Joe returned to Racine and began working for Western Printing. Years after, he became an employee of the JI Case Corp. Lastly, Joe tirelessly and proudly became the building and grounds engineer of St. Lucy Catholic Church, retiring in 2002. When Joe wasn’t working, he enjoyed being at home. His impeccable house and gorgeous gardens were the result of Joe’s dedication. A self-taught , all-around handyman, there wasn’t much he couldn’t do or fix. Above all, Joe loved and was so proud of his entire family. Surviving are his loving wife of over 47 years, Luise; sons, Joseph M. (Sue Cruz) Gajan of Racine and Wolfgang (Monica) Metzger of Germany; granddaughters, Tonya and Sandra; great-grandson, Neils, all of Germany; brother-in-law, Dale (LaVerne) Salisbury of Florida; nephews, Richard, Dan and Tim Salisbury; and many other special relatives and friends including his canine companions. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his sister, Josephine Salisbury in 1971. In honoring Joe’s wishes, cremation will take place. Memorial services will be held in the funeral home, 4600 County Line Rd., on Wednesday, September 26, 2007 at 7:00 pm with Joe’s friend, Rev. Jeffrey M. Thielen, officiating. Private burial will take place in West Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Wednesday from 5-7 pm. In memory of Joe, memorials to the American Cancer Society has been suggested. A special note of thanks to Dr. Michael P. Mullane and his entire staff for the compassionate care, support and friendship that was so warmly extended to Joe over the past 10 years. Also, thanks to our devoted family friend, David LaMere, for all you have done in helping us through difficult times. God bless all of you!
