RACINE – Joyce Nettie Larson joined the Heavenly choir on June 29, 2017. She was born in Racine to Edward and Mary Jacobson of Franksville who preceded her in death along with brothers Merle and Donald, and sisters Viola Berg and Grace Stried. She spent her early years on the farm, found God as her personal Savior while attending Raymond Baptist Church, where she sang duets with her father. She graduated from Rochester Ag School and later attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago.
At age 20, Joyce married George Robert Wagner of Kenosha who preceded her in death in 1994. They were blessed with four children, Kenneth Wagner (Pam), Julianne Wager, Carol Bullmore (Steve), and Patricia Wagner. She was also blessed with 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
In 1996 she married James Robert Strupp of Kenosha, who preceded her in death in 1997.
In May 2000 she married Frederick H. Larson at Calvary Memorial Church attended by close family and friends. She is survived by her devoted husband, immediate family previously listed, step-daughter’s Debra Salvatore (Bill), Susan Kinzer (Lee Schickling), and step-grandchildren and great grandchildren. Also survived by her best friend and sister Hazel Friesma Nelson (Earl) and nieces and nephews.
Joyce was an active member of Calvary Memorial Church since 1943 where she served in numerous capacities. Music was always a big part in her life and she sang in the choir for over 60 years, singing in a trio with her sister and cousin. She taught Bible study classes and was a member of the Women’s ministries. In addition she had an avid love for missions and served on the deaconess visitation and caring committee.
Joyce’s career involved working for Webster Electric, lead secretary at Starbuck Junior High School for 28 years, and the Milwaukee Brewers.
Family and friends are invited to meet in the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Friday evening (July 7th) from 5-7 p.m. for a visitation and time to meet with her family. The celebration of her life and funeral service will take place at Calvary Memorial Church (4001 Washington Ave.) on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Nathan James officiating. There will also be a visitation in the church on Saturday from 10-11 a.m. A private interment will take place at McPherson Cemetery in Raymond. In lieu of flowers, memorials may go to Calvary Memorial Church choir or missions.
The family would like to thank the staff at Primrose Retirement Community for the love and care they showed their mother.
Susan and Bob (Henricksen) Thompson says
Dear family of Joyce, we send our heartfelt condolences with precious memories of loving ties of Joyce thru music 🎶 and lifelong blessed ties at CMC. Your example and touch of humor and spark added so much to others’ faith walk. Must also speak for my parents, Chuck and Joy Henricksen, who will be among those gleefully embracing you on those Golden Shores with the Good Shepherd. ❤️❤️
