
Racine- Kay Johnson-Vincent, 97, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center on Monday, March 10, 2008. Kay was born in Okolona, Mississippi on November 25, 1910 to the late Allen and Martha (nee: Hartwell) Johnson. She came to Racine with her family in 1950. Kay was an active and devoted member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church for over 58 years. At church, she was involved as a BTU teacher, Pastor’s Helper and the Willing Workers group among many other volunteer committees and activities including missionary work. Kay was well respected among many Racine residents as a tireless mentor. She graciously helped countless families get a start in our community as they moved from the South by providing a place to live in her own home on Racine Street. Kay was a strong, independent woman who loved to teach and encourage children. Above all, she always placed her Lord and her family as priority one in life. Surviving are her daughter, Dorothy Erby; grandchildren, Joseph Erby, Brad Erby, April Erby, Scott (Sheila) Erby and Anniekay (Willie) Newell; great-grandchildren, Brittany Erby, Ashley Erby, Idella Erby, Jarett Erby-Anigbogu, Larry Bledson, Brad Erby Jr., Ryan Erby and Willow Newell; great-great-granddaughters, Aniya and Ayana Woods ; and brother, Eugene Johnson and special family friends Michael Pierce and Connie Swenson . Further surviving are a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends too numerous to mention by name. Kay was preceded in death by her husbands, Rev. E.J. Cosby and George Vincent; brothers, Frank, Allen, and Zektoria; and sisters, Wilma, Irene, Mattie Mae, Anisia and Barbara. Funeral services will be held in Kay’s beloved St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, 1120 Grand Ave., on Friday, March 14, 2008 at 11:00 am with Bishop L.L. Kirby officiating. Interment will follow in Graceland Cemetery. Viewing will be in the church on Friday from 10-11 am. The family would like to thank Society Assets especially Maria Heredia, Audrey Hill, Minnie Beadles, Dorothy Earl, Christine Woods for their care and concern and a very special thanks Lillian Hadley and to all other caregivers who have helped and shown concern over the years.
