Racine, WI ~~Laura (Flora Lee) L. Townsend was born January 21, 1942 in Taylor, MS to the late Nathaniel and Elnora (nee: Martin) Jones, Sr. Laura was a faithful member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, serving under Bishop Lawrence L. Kirby until the Lord called her home. She was united in marriage to Junior Townsend on April, 22, 1976.
There was never a stranger Flora Lee met that she didn't have encouraging words for. She believed in the power of prayer and was a mighty prayer warrior in her prayer group. She was a master gardener with a green thumb capable of growing just about anything. She was a loving mother and grandmother and a faithful wife. Whatever her hands found to do, that is what she did to the glory of the Lord. She would go out of her way to help others when they were in need. Flora also loved to sing. She sang with her family group, The Jones Sisters for over 20 years!
She leaves to cherish her memory: her loving husband of 40 years, Junior Townsend, two daughters; Cherel (Frederick) Hyatt, Alisa (Randy) Cameron both of Racine, WI, three sons; Tony Jones of St. Paul, Minnesota, Douglas (Annie) Fitzpatrick of Mississippi, Darnell Brumby of Racine, WI, three sisters; Navalla (Bishop John C.) Williams, Emma Jones, and Mary Jones all of Racine, WI, two brothers; Earl (Victoria) Jones and Currie Jones, both of Racine, WI, six grand children; Sherel (Jerry) Cornett, LaVosha Jones, Dexter Jones, Caleb Cameron, Josh Cameron and Zacharias Hyatt, nine great-grandchildren, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nathaniel and Elnora Jones, sisters; Martha Fondren, Betty Gamell, Catherine Jones and Mabel Jones, brothers; Nathaniel Jones Jr, Jack Jones, Perry Jones and Tommie Jones, and brother-in-law, J.C. Jones.
Her Homegoing Celebration will be held on Wednesday, July 6th, 11:00am, at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, 1123 Center St, Bishop Lawrence L. Kirby, Host Pastor. Pastor Jerry Cornett will be the Eulogist. Visitation will be at the church from 10:00am until the time of service. Interment will take place at Graceland Cemetery.

Flora was an amazing woman. She used to look after me when I was a kid and treated me like I was one of her own. Even as I got older she kept asking about me and how I was doing. She was a very caring woman and the world could always use more like her.
RIP Flora!
