Miller's FlowersMount Pleasant – Lois Arvilla (nee: Peden) (Maurer) Anderson, age 90, by the grace of God, went to Heaven surrounded with the love of family, on October 22, 2024.
The 2nd oldest of 14 children, Lois was born on June 3, 1934 in Mondovi, WI to the late Leonard and Lorraine (nee: Hill) Peden Sr. Lois came to Racine at age 16 to live and work for the Charles Gorton and F.M. Young families. She graduated from Washington Park High School in 1952. Fun fact: Lois played basketball for Park High – one night she had a 3-point shot and had her highest scoring game. Immediately after the game, she went to the hospital to have her appendix removed. That is testimony to Lois’s strong will and dedication she had in life. With profound Christian faith, Lois went on to attend Moody Bible Institute for 1 year. She was a proud and faithful member of Calvary Memorial Church since 1950, where she was active as a Sunday School Superintendent, served as a Trustee, painted and made curtains for church rooms, shared her gift of voice in the choir, volunteered with Lend a Hand Deborahs and was involved with Camp Life for 15 years.
On April 23, 1955 at Calvary Memorial Church, Lois was united in marriage with Richard D. Maurer. She worked for Modine Manufacturing for 2 years. Lois lived her dream of staying at home to raise her four children. Years later, Lois worked for the Union Grove Police Dept. for Chief Keith Whitcomb, serving as dispatcher and Municipal Court Clerk. After, she worked for Greene Glass as the office manager for 19 years, before retiring.
Among her interests, Lois had an exceptional talent and passion in silk floral design, for weddings, memorials, and home décor. She restored our farm house to its original beauty, including stripping the entire wooden staircase, banister and trim. She also stripped many layers of wall paper. She enjoyed refinishing and restoring furniture. Each year she would diligently plan and tend her one-acre vegetable garden. From planting to canning, she shared the abundant harvest with others. She was a talented self-taught seamstress. Lois was wonderful baker, her pies and chocolate chip cookies were loved by all. Lois was the first to lend a helping hand to others and always put the needs of others BEFORE her own. Above all, Lois loved being with her family.
Sadly, Richard passed away at the young age of 49 on March 25, 1983. As difficult as it was, Lois continued on in life raising her younger boys. After the boys were grown she enjoyed life by traveling with her friends, Ruth & Bonnie. The three of them went to Florida, Europe, Hawaii and the Caribbean.
Years later, Lois found love again, with John H. Anderson III. They were married at Calvary Memorial Church on December 26, 2003. When Lois married John, she gained four more children adding to her ever growing family. As they were both retired, Lois & John wintered in Tucson, AZ for many years. Lois again experience heartbreak when John passed away on December 16, 2022.

Lois was an active member at Calvary Memorial Church. I have had the privilege by knowing her most of my life. She and Dick were in my parents’ Sunday School class. We often did activities together whether camping for Labor Day, riding their horses at camp, hayrides in the fall; it was always a lot of fun!
Lois was a strong believer in our church. She taught Sunday School, and helped teach our girls’ clubs. I am glad I got to know her.
