Lorraine Anna (nee: Kolosofsky) Poetschke, 78, passed away unexpectedly in her sleep on Saturday, April 4, 2009. Lorraine was born in Racine, Wisconsin on September 22, 1930 to the late Hugo and Else “Kale” Kolosofsky, and remained here as a lifetime resident. After graduation from Washington Park High School, she went on to pursue her Beautician and Cosmetology degree. On July 25, 1953, Lorraine was united in marriage with the love of her life, Erwin Herman Poetschke at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Racine. Lorraine worked at the Orchid Beauty Salon for many years until she opened her own Beautician business, The Week-Ender Beauty Salon, in Uptown Racine and worked there until her retirement. Lorraine was an avid team member of the original Racine Belles Junior Women’s Baseball Team, which is honored today at the Miller Park Baseball Stadium in Milwaukee, and also loved playing league volleyball. Lorraine and Erwin enjoyed bowling on various leagues and Square Dancing throughout the years. They also loved travelling all over the United States, Jamaica, Caribbean Islands, and Mexico, and in addition sailed on 12 cruises. The two of them shared many events and activities at the Deutsche Manner Verein (German Club) of Racine. In recent years, they liked playing cards at several of the local Senior Centers and taking bus tours around the state and country. Above all, Lorraine was passionate about her family and many very dear friends and cherished deeply the wonderful times they all spent together. Surviving are her broken-hearted husband, Erwin; sister-in-law, Bernice “Betty” Poetschke; nieces, Mary (Alan) Mollerskov of Racine, and Margaret (Paul) Empie of Denver, Iowa; nephew, Robert Poetschke living in Arkansas; great-nephews, Jay (Annie) Mollerskov; Timothy Mollerskov, and Jonathan Empie; special cousin, Audrey Reagan; and many dear friends. Lorraine will be deeply missed by everyone. In addition to her parents, Lorraine was preceded in death by Erwin’s parents, Hermann and Martha Poetschke, and brother-in-law, Gerhardt Poetschke, all who immigrated from Germany. A service celebrating Lorraine’s life will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. An interment will follow in Graceland Cemetery. A visitation will be in the funeral home on Wednesday prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m. We wish to thank all those that helped us in any way during this time.
