Racine – Mae Frances Coleman, 90 years of age, fell asleep in death on Saturday, October 11, 2014, at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare-All Saints. She was born to Lawrence and Lillie (nee: Jamison) Irby in Arkabutla, Mississippi, on March 10, 1924.
Mae married Thomas Coleman, Sr. on March 18, 1939. She was later baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on July 31, 1954. She and Thomas, Sr. moved from Mississippi to Illinois living in North Chicago, Waukegan, Tennessee, Zion, and Racine through the years. Thomas preceded her in death in 1996. She was a devoted witness, helping many people learn Bible truths.
She is survived by her sons, Thomas (Lynn) Coleman, Larry (Rosalyn) Coleman; daughter, Valerie Coleman; grandchildren, Timothy (Carlene), Angela (Cedric) Brown and Laurie born to Thomas and Lynn; Latasha (Byron) Fulsom, Shaphan, Lemuel, Jokton (Shayla), Kelani (Jonathan) Baker and Barak born to Lawrence and Rosalyn; Lenora, Zipporah, Roy and Fontaine born to Valerie Coleman. She also has great-grand and great-great grandchildren. All of her grandchildren will miss their “Ganny,” as she was so affectionately called by them. She is also survived by her sister, Everlina Massey of Zion.
In addition to her parents, Mae was preceded in death by her siblings, Minnie Laird, Bertha Lee Miller, LeHoma, Lamar, Tommy, and Johnny Irby.
Mae enjoyed life with her family and friends but most of all she loved meeting people in the ministry preaching and teaching work. Her hobbies were fishing, gardening and cooking delicious finger-licking food, which she loved to cook for family and friends. She enjoyed playing baseball, as well a host of other games with her children and grandchildren.
Arrangements have been made for a memorial service at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses located at 1600 North Summerset Avenue, Racine, Wisconsin, on Saturday, NOVEMBER 1, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. with a memorial luncheon to follow.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. James Hall, Kerri and the ICU staff of Wheaton Franciscan of Racine, and the entire Becker-Shoop staff. It is by their lovely bedside manner that made Mae’s home and most recent care a comforting one.
