Memorial Suggestions
In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorials to your favorite cancer charity in memory of her daughter, Magda.
Magda Mary Szabo, 87, a woman with a generous heart and a passion for family, peacefully passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at Parkview Gardens surrounded by love. Born in Hungary on November 11, 1936, Magda embarked on a journey that led her to her beloved Racine at the young age of ten, where she established her roots and left an indelible mark on those around her.
On May 1, 1954, she exchanged vows with the love of her life, Laszlo Szabo, and together they embarked on a journey filled with love, laughter, and an unwavering bond that would withstand the sands of time.
Magda had a passion for the culinary arts, transforming simple ingredients into delectable masterpieces that would warm the hearts and souls of her loved ones. Sundays in the Szabo household were marked by the aroma of her cherished chicken soup and the sweet indulgence of Hungarian pastries.
Magda had a green thumb, tending to her garden with care and nurturing the beauty that blossomed around her. Her passion for gardening mirrored the nurturing presence she had in the lives of her loved ones, always providing comfort and support in times of need.
Fond of her Hungarian heritage, Magda found joy in traveling back to her homeland, reuniting with cherished family members and reconnecting with her roots. Her visits to Hungary were filled with laughter, stories, and the embrace of loved ones, creating everlasting memories that will be cherished by all who shared those moments with her.
Survived by sons, Les (Karen) Szabo, Michael (Michele) Szabo, along with her grandsons, Steven Szabo (Samantha Winchell, fiancee), Joseph (Emily) Szabo, Julian Szabo, great-grandchildren, Dallas and Natalie Szabo, Magda leaves behind a legacy of warmth and devotion that will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.
In addition to her parents and husband, Magda is preceded in death by her daughter, Magda Szabo, sister, Helen Korako and brother, William (Lois) Korako.
A memorial service celebrating Magda’s life will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, 5:30pm, at Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home and Crematory, 4600 County Line Road. Visitation will be from 4:00pm until the time of the service.
The family would like to extend a heart-felt “Thank You” to the staff at Parkview Gardens, especially Ari Towns. The family also would like to say “Thank You” to Mike Hintz and the entire St. Croix Hospice team for their kind, compassionate care, and support.
Magda Mary Szabo’s spirit will forever live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know her. May her soul rest in peace, surrounded by the love and warmth she shared so generously during her time on Earth.

Magda was a delight to converse with. Her love for those who looked after her was sincere, and when she inquired about “that young man of ours” (referring to my son), her interest was heartfelt. It was a privilege to know and care for her during her stay at Parkview Gardens. Both the staff and I will deeply miss her presence and the visits from her family. Magda, you were truly one of a kind.
