RACINE (formerly a resident of Kenosha) – Marge Kastelic, 89, passed away on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Hospice.
Born on December 11, 1926 in Kenosha to Teofil and Mary (nee: Grabalauski) Jelen and she attended Kenosha schools. In her early years, she worked at Nippersink Resort then moved to managing a number of theaters including the Orpheum in Kenosha, Janesville and Neenah-Menasha theaters. On July 5, 1952, she married Harry Kastelic. They had two children, Diane and Gary. She then worked for the rest of her career at the First National Bank in Kenosha starting as a teller moving through a variety of positions, ending her career as the bank Auditor. Marge was appointed the first female Officer of that bank.
Actively involved in Quota Club, the Kenosha Girl Scouts, and the Bradford Band Boosters, she was always open to taking on projects that were needed from sewing color guard uniforms to helping to revitalize the downtown. After retiring, Harry and Marge spent the next few years traveling and they settled in Dunedin, Florida within an active community for six months each year. There she was known for her entertaining (her cucumber salad, roast beef and hors d’oeuvres were always a hit), golfing, card playing, and intricate needlework. Many of her friends and family have hand crocheted Christmas snowflakes and needlework pictures brightening their homes. When Marge was in Kenosha, she enjoyed flower gardening, bird watching, and her card club, the Baker’s Dozen, that met in each other’s homes for over 40 years. Marge delighted in her three grandchildren Emily, Caroline and Kaitlin and was proud of the women they have become.
Survivors include her husband, Harry Kastelic of Racine; her daughter, Diane Kastelic (Alan Gromacki) of Kenosha; her son, Gary Kastelic (Laura) of Kenosha; her granddaughters, Emily Kastelic of Kenosha, Caroline Kastelic of Burbank, California; Kaitlin Gromacki of Milwaukee. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Jelen; her father, Teofil Jelen; her brother, Harry Jelen; and sister, Felemina Jelen.
As Marge wished, a private family memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Wheaton Franciscan Hospice Association would be appreciated.
