
Mr. Maurice R. Merlau, 87, died at the Aurora Memorial Hospital of Burlington on Thursday, August 12, 2010.
He was born in Rochester, NY on September 25, 1922, the son of the late Fredrick and Ina (nee: VanVoorhis) Merlau. On August 5, 1950, he married Mary L. Noe in Holy Name Catholic Church.
Mr. Merlau served his nation with the U.S. Army during both WWII and the Korean War. After his discharge he attended and graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Architecture. Some of his work included the designs of St. James Church in Mukwonago and St. Mary’s Church and School in South Milwaukee.
He was a former member of St. Lucy Catholic Church. After moving to Union Grove he and his wife joined St. Robert Bellarmine.
Mr. Merlau enjoyed his time woodworking, gardening and traveling with his family.
In addition to his loving wife, Mary, his survivors include his children, Anne (Arvis Stuart) Bradley of Waukesha, Richard (Karen) Merlau of Elkhart Lake, Patricia (Robert) Godfrey of Ottawa, WI David (Mary) Merlau of Friendswood, TX, William Merlau of Waukesha; grandchildren, John (Gloria) Bradley of Waukesha, Steven (Jennifer Klietz) Merlau, Tammy (Chris) Worden of Dousman, WI, Mary (Douglas) Dickson of Elmendorf, AL, Katie (Aaron) Kletzke of Janesville, Christina Tatreau of Waukesha, Sarah, Paul and Ruth Merlau of Friendswood, TX; great grandchildren, Amber, John, Sean, Brooke, Samantha, Lewis and William Bradley, Andrew and Connor Worden, Joshua, Hannah, Mathew, Marina Dickson and Asher and Levi Tatreau; brothers, Donald Merlau, Charles Merlau both of Hilton, NY, Richard (Joanne) Merlau of Rochester, NY; sisters-in-law, Ruth Krumberger and Roberta Noe both of Racine; Marion Noe of Texas; as well as many dear nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Robert Merlau; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Barbara Merlau, Millie (Shorty) Parson, Margaret (Robert) Bodi, Ray (Louise) Noe, Robert Noe, Richard Noe and Hank Krumberger.
The celebration of his life and funeral mass will be held at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church (3320 S. Colony Ave. in Union Grove) on Monday, August 16, 2010 at noon with Rev. Robert Kacalo officiating. There will be a visitation in the church on Monday from 11-12. A private burial will take place at Forest Home Cemetery in Milwaukee.
