
~~Racine – Mavis Faye (nee: McNeal) Strong, age 82, was born into eternal life on Monday, March 17, 2014 at Wheaton Franciscan – All Saints Medical Center.
Mavis was born in New Albany, MS on September 12, 1931, to the union of the late Clarence and Louella (nee: Golden) McNeal. She was educated in Mississippi at Union County Training School. Mavis was employed by the Clayton House Motel as a member of the Housekeeping staff. Mavis accepted the Lord into her life at an early age and maintained her profound Christian faith throughout her life. Mavis loved reading her Bible and listening to Gospel music. She was particularly fond of the Mighty Clouds of Joy as well as many other gospel groups. Those who knew Mavis, can attest to her immaculate home. She enjoyed cooking, baking and spending time with her loving family, especially around the holidays. Mavis was the sweetest, kindest and most loving woman you could ever know. Everyone should have the opportunity to be blessed with a: mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend like Mavis. Her loving smile and tender touch will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, Mavis was preceded in death by her Siblings, Autrey Moore, Freddie McNeal, Inez Henderson, Odell Brownlee, Eteria Freeman, Leonard McNeal, Ezell McNeal, Evelyn Reynolds, Harmie D. McNeal, Charlie “Curtis” McNeal and grandson, Antonio Strong.
Left to cherish her precious memories are; her loving sons, James Strong, Jr., Lee (Francine) Strong, Clyde Strong, Wayne (Terri) Strong and Samuel Strong; grandchildren, Darnell Davidson, Tyrone Strong, Jessica Strong, Jamie Strong, Byron Strong, Myles Phillips and Myles Strong; eight great grandchildren; brother, Havis (Betty) McNeal; special nieces, Mary Helena and Hope Johnson, a special cousin, Ann Peel and a host of other beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family would like to extend a heartfelt note of thanks to, Yushika Finley, for her love and compassionate care for Mavis during this difficult time.
A celebration of her life will be held at Gregg Chapel CME, 2237 Howe St, on Tuesday, March 25th at 11am. Visitation will be in the church from 10am until the time of service.
