Michael David Bado, age 48, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on April 5th, 2018. He was born in Racine, on April 12th, 1969, to Frank M. Bado and Susan C. (Nee: DeSmidt) Bado.
Michael graduated from J. I. Case High School class of 1987 and continued his education at the University of Wisconsin- Whitewater graduating with a B.S.E. degree, then on to the University of Illinois at Champagne-Urbana receiving his master’s Degree in Journalism. After reviewing his many offers, upon graduating he chose to embark his teaching career at Glenbard North High School in Carol Stream, Illinois staying there for his entire twenty three-year career.
At Glenbard North, Michael taught English using his passion for books and writing to inspire his students. He enjoyed connecting with them individually and encouraging them to realize their own potential. Many of Michael’s students shared stories of how he was an influence in their life making each one feel important, also crediting him as their favorite teacher. He extremely enjoyed coaching girl’s track and cross country at Glenbard North with Gary, his friend of many years.
Michael’s other interests included mountain biking, marathon races, reading, concerts, and of course, his Minnesota Vikings. He was also a fan of the Milwaukee Brewers, watching and attending games with his dad and friends whenever possible.
We can’t leave out Michael’s enthusiasm and love for music. His collection and knowledge of bands and songs could have been a second career.
Finally, and sentimentally, Michael loved Spider-Man and Mickey Mouse. He probably wouldn’t appreciate the mention of this, but be must said, he loved them both.
Michael leaves to cherish his memory, mother Susan C Bado, sister Penny (Pete) Niccolai, brother Robert (Carol) Bado, uncles Sylvester (Marvis) Bado and Joseph (Marion) Bado, numerous cousins, nephews, and niece. Michael was preceded in death by his father, Frank Bado, his grandparents, his aunts, Irene Mielcarek and Barbara Bado and cousins, Billy Bado, Tony Mielcarek, and Tommy Mielcarek.
His funeral will be held in the funeral home on Sunday, April 15th, at 5:00 p.m. with Rev. Ronald Gramza officiating. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Sunday, from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Private burial will take place in West Lawn Memorial Park.
The family would like to thank Gary Heilers and his wife, Tracy, for their constant friendship and support to Michael, also ,the caring students and staff of Glenbard North High School.
Michael, we will all miss you.

At this sad time, I woud like to convey my most sincere condolences to Mike’s family and friends. I am saddened by the loss of this wonderful human being who was also my friend.
Mike was my English Department colleague during his tenure at Glenbard North High School in Carol Stream, IL. He was outgoing, funny, creative, and an asset to both the English Department and the school. His involvement in extra-curricular activities as a coach exemplified his love of sports and the students. He was well-liked by faculty and students, and I am confident he will be missed.

All 3 of my kids had the honor of being in Mr. Bado’s class. English was never their favorite subject but Mr. Bado nevertheless made them love his class. He had high expectations for everyone yet was always a nurturing, intuitive and supportive teacher. He was more than a teacher, he was their mentor. As a parent, it was a great comfort knowing my kids could come to him with anything. We are all deeply saddened by his passing but are very grateful that he touched our lives. May he Rest In Peace 🙏

He was kind hearted and sparked the interests of his students through the books we were reading in class. His classroom atmosphere was always inviting, humorous, and easy going. Thanks Mr. Bado for introducing me to classics like Les Miserables and A Farewell to Arms. He was a wonderful person and great educator. Rest in Peace.

Its been more than15 years since I have had your English class, but it is evident you left a lasting impact on my life. I hated the book “When the Legend Dies”, but you must have taught it so well that I still remember I reading it (even if I do remember by dislike for the text). You have me the nickname “absent man” because I was a rebellious teenager that tried to be cool and skip school. I still remember that nick name because you actually cared. You were always willing to go the extra mile. You made a difference, and it is because of teachers like you I am who I am today. Thank you for everything Bado.
Rest in peace

The two years Mike and I were together he taught me so much. He showed me how to have patience when running, taught me the game of baseball with his love for the Brewers.
We spent time in and out of record stores, book stores. I remember the Borders on North Ave. we would just sit there reading magazines and listening to music. We saw The Who, CSNY, Bob Dylan, Wilco and Paul Stanley in concert. Those I will never forget. Thank you for those years. I will always remember your passion for music, for teaching, for your students and that you always had the right things to say. Rest In Peace.

He was so kind and continued to show that he cared for his students. I am glad to know that he will be remembered as a great teacher who impacted student’s lives. His great memories will be remembered and Mr. Bado will be missed.

Mr. Bado was incredibly kind, caring and understanding. His sense of humor was truly unforgettable. I feel very fortunate to have experienced him as my teacher. He had the ability to take the material and find a way to relate it to our unique personalities. He went above and beyond to get to know his students and make us feel valued and for that he will always hold a special place in my heart. My thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family during this time. Rest In Peace Mr. Bado. You will be profoundly missed.

Crazy to think that I had you as my freshman english teacher 6 years ago, I still remmember sitting in your classroom listening to you talking about writing papers and saying that everything should connect to life, because its something greater that we can all understand. Also your one goal as a teacher was not to pass or fail us, but to make us better human beings, thinking back to Highschool there are only a couple of teachers that actually had an impact on me. Im glad to say that Mr. Bado you were one of them, everytime you saw me even after I wasn’t in your class anymore you always asked me how I was and what I had planned for my future. You were one of thise teachers that never forgot his students and wanted them to not only succed in your class but in life, school was just one part of a crazy adventure that we call life. You will definitely be missed. Rest easy Mr. Bado

I had the privilege of having Mr.Bado senior year of high school. I really hated English but he made it much more enjoyable. Countless talks about the Vikings and sports in general always helped me get through the day. I’ll never forget the little things that he taught me that other teachers weren’t allowed to. Thank you for everything. Rest in Peace.

I was one of the lucky ones who had Bado as a teacher. He was one of those teachers who made you excited to come to class. His jokes, caring personality and his ability to make reading a book exciting made him one of the best. After I graduated we stayed in touch and he was always one of the first people I would want to find when I came to visit. We usually passed each other in the morning on our way to work and even though he is gone, I still look for his car every morning. I still can’t believe that he is gone and is very deeply missed. Rest in peace friend . – JLM

Thanks to Mr. Bado I will never forget how to spell Ron Kovic’s name from the movie “Born on the 4th of July”. “That’s KOVIC K-O-V-I-C”. He was a good teacher who made learning easy and would always share a joke. All around seemed like a good guy, it’s a shame more students won’t get to have him as an English teacher. Rest In Peace

Bado,
Thank you for gracing this earth with your smile and passion for teaching. Though I never had you personally as a teacher, I knew I could count on you for support throughout my academic career at GBN. Now, as a GBN staff member, I saw your impact from a different perspective. You loved your students and cared deeply about their personal success. My heart and prayers goes to your family as they process your passing. May you find eternal peace.

Mr. Bado was not only my sons teacher but his mentor as well. He spoke of Mr Bado daily with such delight and happiness. Christian was his student aid this year which he did because he enjoyed Mr Bado’s company so much. English was never Christian ‘s favorite subject but it was with Mr Bado. I know he connected with so many students and helped bring out the best in all of them. He had a natural way of making them happy and confident. We are all deeply saddened by his loss and our prayers go out to his family. Thank you for being our sons mentor and friend Mr Bado you will be missed tremendously 🙏🏻

My deepest condolences to your family Mr. Bado.
I had Mr. Bado for freshmen English 19 years ago. I remember in the beginning of the school year thinking how tough he was as a teacher. His toughness instilled discipline in my study habits that stayed with me throughout high school. His passion for English and abilities as an educator helped me become a better writer. Halfway through the school year, Mr. Bado started to relax and crack jokes with us. I still think of and laugh at one of his jokes quite often. We were starting to get loud in class with side conversations and he all of a sudden shouted, “Stop! Grammar time.” If you don’t get that joke you need to Google MC Hammer. Towards the end of the year we called out Mr. Bado on why he had been so tough on us in the beginning of the year when he was actually one of the funniest and coolest teachers and he immediately responded, “If I had been this way in the beginning of the year, you all would have tried to walk all over me.” Well I’m thankful I had a teacher like him to make me make my education my personal responsibility.

I’m writing this with great sadness. I had Mr. Bado in 2001 for English. He was a great teacher. Mr. Bado tried hard to make me love English and reading. He must’ve had psychic abilities, he always knew when I didn’t read my assigned chapters. 🙂 He was enthusiastic, funny and cared for his students. I’m sending my prayers for the Bado/GBN family.

Mr. Bado,
I promise I will write this little remembrance to you without using Spark notes hahahaha. That was probably one of the worst moments of my life, and then when you read it to the class and put me on blast, that really put the cherry on top of the sundae. But, we sure did have some great discussions after that event happened. You were always a wonderful person and teacher, and I really thoroughly enjoyed going to your class, even though you would pick on me, most of the time.
I was at Trivia the other night after I had heard the horrible news, and one of the questions was ” What was Romeo’s last name”.. I sat there and laughed, thinking back to your class.. I knew it right away, I wrote down Montague, and was right.
You taught me that, you also taught me to always believe in myself, and you would always say “you’re a good kid Heather Byrne, you sure are”.
So, Thank you for what you taught me. I actually just finished my endorsement for Special Education, and hope to get a teaching job next year. I sure hope to be half the teacher that you were to so many students that loved having you 🙂
Rest In Peace Mr. Bado
(All my words, not Sparknotes… but I will always answer to Sparky hahah)

Hey Mr. Bado, it’s Guida. Even though I have since married and gone through many classes and
teachers, 19 years later I can still remember every detail of that English class, especially sneaking in late and you yelling out “Guida you’re late!” Lol. I’m still always late, that’s a habit I never broke! Your class was my favorite class and that’s because you made it fun, not boring and you wanted us all to love it. I never would have known that you were anything but happy and you will be missed very very much. It doesn’t matter how long it’s been, it still feels like yesterday because that’s how good you made people feel. Rest In Peace Mr. Bado. You are truly missed
Carolyn Patterson says
Mr. Bado, although I was not in your class, you had me in resource right before spring break this year. You helped me write a short story about things in my life I couldn’t properly express and gave me the right words when I couldn’t think of any. Thank you for being you, you’ll forever be missed.
