Racine – Michael Wainwright, known to family and friends as “Ice Mike”, transitioned from this life on April 20, 2020, at the age of 59 years.
Michael was born on June 9, 1960 in Quitman, MS son of Cecil and Elnora (McCray) Wainwright. He received a formal education in Racine Unified School District at Case High School in Racine, WI. He was employed by Chrysler Corp in Kenosha, WI, and eventually transferred to the Toledo, OH location in 1985. After 30 years of hard work and dedication, he retired in 2009.
At an early age, Michael developed a love for playing the drums. He not only loved to play; he mastered the art of drumming. He also enjoyed listening to good music, and random displays of his amazing dance moves, such as “The Victory Dance”. He was kind and welcoming to almost every person he encountered and never met a stranger. He kept those around him laughing. Michael’s beautiful smile and joyful spirit will never be forgotten.
He was preceded in death by his father, Cecil Wainwright, and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
He will always be cherished with love by his mother, Elnora Wainwright; his sisters, Ethel (Cleveland Jr.) Scaife and Julie Wainwright; his brothers, Cecil Wainwright Jr., Jerry Wainwright and Edward Wainwright; his stepdaughter Elvira Gordon and his former spouse and special friend, Karen Hawkins-Thompson. Michael will also be forever remembered by his numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
