Flowers by JosephRACINE – Mr. Myron T. Wiersum, 93, passed away at Kenosha Senior Living on Sunday, November 12, 2017.
He was born in Kenosha on January 29, 1924, the son of the late Charles and Maria (nee: Balk) Wiersum. After high school, Mr. Wiersum served his nation with the US Army Air Corps during WWII. On January 2, 1948 he married Carol Haumersen in Gary, Indiana. She preceded him in death on June 5, 2013.
Mr. Wiersum retired as a lieutenant from the City of Racine Fire Department in 1980 after 29 years of service. He was a long time devoted member of Racine Bible Church. He was also a former member of the Racine Camera Club. In addition to being an avid photographer, he enjoyed helping his church and being in the company of his family.
He is survived by his daughter, Jean (John) Friesema of Woodland Park, CO; his grandchildren, Kari (Jason) Masilian of Racine, Jason (Trisha) Friesema, Josh (Anne-Marie) Friesema both of Woodland Park, CO, John (Annie) Friesema of Colorado Springs, CO; his great grandchildren, Noah, Keziah, Ellie, Isaac, Michael, Angie, Eli, Colton, Cole, Abbey, Ava, Jett and Jonas; his daughter-in-law, Marla Wiersum of Racine; his brother, Harold (Lois) Wiersum of Minnesota; his sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Bonnie Haumersen of Racine and David (Kathy) Haumersen of Minnesota; as well as many dear nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Wiersum was preceded in death by his sons, Theodore “Ted” Wiersum and Bob Wiersum and many brothers, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Family and friends are invited to meet at Racine Bible Church (12505 Spring St, Sturtevant, WI 53177) on Thursday, November 16, 2017 for a visitation from 10-11 a.m. A service with military honors will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Spencer DeBurgh officiating. A private interment will take place at West Lawn Memorial Park. Memorials have been suggested to Racine Bible Church for mission work or to Seasons Hospice.
The Wiersum family wishes to thank Kenosha Senior Living and the entire staff of Seasons Hospice; especially his nurses, Heather and Steve for the loving and professional attention Myron received while under their care.
