Nancy Ann Neis Racine – Nancy Ann Neis, age 70, passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2025.
Nancy was born in Durand, WI on August 7, 1954 to the late Donald and Priscilla (nee: Sabelko) Neis. Shortly after she was born, they moved to Racine, WI where she spent the majority of her childhood. Growing up, she enjoyed playing with neighborhood friends and the family visits to her grandparent’s farm. Nancy graduated from J.I. Case High School, class of 1972. She began working at Big Boy restaurant at age 16 and spent a few years employed there. In the spring of 1974, she was a passenger in a car accident that left her paralyzed on her left side. This dramatically changed her life, but it never dampened her spirit. In her adult years, she worked for Goodwill and Hardees, where she enjoyed socializing with the patrons. Her and her parents moved to Mondovi, WI and Durand, WI for several years, but eventually returned to Racine.
Nancy had many hobbies and enjoyed spending time with her family. She enjoyed listening to her records, with the Beatles always at the top of her picks. She was always willing to play a card game, and loved her sweets and a fresh cup of coffee. Nancy won plenty of billiard games, and if she caught you playing without her, she would say, “I play winner!” She enjoyed traveling with her parents, and enjoyed going out for lunch or dinner. You could find her passing the time with a word search or a game of solitaire, and she loved writing letters to family and friends. Her infectious laugh would make the whole room erupt in laughter. She was strong in her Catholic faith, and was involved in prayers groups.
Surviving are her siblings; Cloy Neis, Patrick (Kathy) Neis; nieces, Danielle (Eric) Scott and Nicole (Jeff) Kimpel; great-nephews, Lucas & Theo Scott and Sam Kimpel, Uncles and Aunts Leon (Vivian) Sabelko, MaryAnn (Bill) Bailey, Lola (Dennis) Johns, Francis (Marlene) Sabelko, Dennis (Joanne) Sabelko, Carol Neis and many dear cousins, relatives and friends.

Nancy & I have been friends since 1967 (ish) on. Walking through the park, one day, she came up to me and said “I’m going to be your new Best Friend”! I was in a very difficult time in my adolescence, so my response was “good luck!” Well, Nan persisted and the rest is history. Lucky for me. Thank you, Nan, you made my life so much better! Love, DD (MaryGail) Sullivan

Nancy’s passing is a great loss to our Wednesday Catholic Communion Service at Lincoln Park Nursing Facility. I am honored to say that we discussed the Mass readings and shared the Eucharist together. We miss her bright eyes and lovely smile. May she rest in the arms of Our Lord, Jesus Christ.
