
Racine – Obert L. Maves, 96, passed away in Pewaukee on Monday, July 11, 2011. He was born in Edgerton, Wisconsin on April 12, 1915, the son of the late Frederick and Eda (nee: Jenson) Maves. He was a Racine area resident for most of his life. On November 30, 1941 he was married in Kahoka, Missouri to Jean Hopwood.
Obert was a tool maker by trade. He had worked at Hamilton Beach, and then at The Fischer Precise Corporation retiring in 1980. He was also a talented professional musician who played the clarinet, saxophone, and organ. He was a member of the American Federation of Musicians; the Astronomy Society; and the local American Association of Machinists. Obert also devoted many hours to the Tex Reynolds Toys for Tots program.
He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Rie Maves of Waukesha; nieces, Marjorie Olson, and Marilyn (Al) Kim; nephew, Fred (Marcia) Maves; as well as other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean; his son, Roger Maves; and sister, Dorothy Gretebeck; and brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Elaine Maves.
A memorial service for Obert will be held in the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, July 18, 2011. Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. Memorials have been suggested to Toys for Tots.
