Peter “Pete” Katibian, 81, passed away in Ft. Myers Beach on Sunday, November 22, with his wife, Joan, at his side. Pete was doing what he loved best, watching the Packers. He was born in Racine on September 25, 1934, the son of the late Arsen and Mary (nee: Vartanian) Katibian.
Pete served his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. On August 24, 1963, here in Racine he was united in marriage to the love of his life, the former Joan Jacobson. Pete was a Master Barber for over fifty-seven years. He owned and operated Pete’s Barbershop. After retiring Pete continued to cut hair at various shops here in Racine and in Florida. Pete was a member of St. Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church, the Barbers Local #137, and the Barbershop Harmony Society.
Surviving are his loving wife of fifty-two years, Joan; their daughters, Katherine (Damon Schereck ) Tuinstra-Schereck, of Whitewater, WI, and Karen ( Anthony ) Xydakis, of Lemont, IL; grandchildren, Jessie Tuinstra and Hannah Tuinstra, both of Whitewater, Taylor Schereck, of Mount Horeb, WI, Nicholas Xydakis and Mariam Xydakis, both of Lemont, IL; brother-in-law, Jack Marshall, of Neshkoro, WI; niece Kristine Boehm and nephew Gary Takessian. Cousins, other relatives, loyal clients, and friends also survive Pete. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters Alice Takessian, Helen Rowlands, and Margaret Marshall; brothers-in-law, Bill Rowlands, and Charles Takessian, niece, Charlotte Lagas, and nephew, Bruce Rowlands.
A memorial service, celebrating his life, will be held in the funeral home on Sunday, December 6TH, at 3:00 p.m., with Rev. Fr. Yeprem Kelegian officiating. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Sunday, December 6th, from 1:00 P.M. until the time of the service. Private interment service will take place in the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to the charity of your choice in his name.
