A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 28th, in St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 6401 Gages Lake Rd., Gurnee, IL, with Rev. Greg Houck officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Friday, from 5:00 p.m. until the time of the Mass. Burial, with full military honors, will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, in Ascension Cemetery, 1920 Buckley Rd., Libertyville. Relatives and friends are invited to meet in the church parking lot by 10:00 a.m. to process to the cemetery.

Richard D. Hughes, 81, passed away at his residence, on Monday, July 24, 2017, with his loving family at his side. Dick was born in Waukegan, IL on October 24, 1935 the son of the late Marshall and Dorothy (nee: Hall) Hughes.
On November 19, 1960, in St. George Catholic Church, Dick was united in marriage to the former Susan Piehl. He served his country with the U.S. Air Force. It was while he was in the Air Force Dick became passionate about flying. He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 150, an avid Green Bay Packers fan, and a dedicated family man, never missing a sporting event for his children and grandchildren.
Surviving are his devoted wife, Sue; their children, Kimberly (the late Ragan) Smith, Kelly (Michael) Mitrovic, all of Gurnee, Robert (Alicia) Hughes, of Noblesville, IN; grandchildren, Collin (Adeline) Smith, Logan Smith, Nolan Mitrovic, Nevan Mitrovic, Piper Hughes, and Charli Hughes; soon to be great granddaughter, Amia Smith; brother, John Patrick (Patricia) Hughes, of Johnsburg, IL. Dick is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and a host of friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Marshall Hughes, and sister, Nancy Baker.
