Racine – Robert Edward Mallwitz, age 68, passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, at Hospice Alliance – Hospice House in Pleasant Prairie on All Saints Day, Sunday morning, November 1, 2020.
Bob was born in Milwaukee on March 10, 1952 to the late William and Marion (nee: Goelz) Mallwitz. He proudly attended Jordan High School, which closed after his Junior year, and went on to graduate from Dominican High School. Following, Bob completed his training in the police academy and earned an Associate’s Degree from Mount Scenario in Ladysmith, WI. Bob faithfully served our community as a police officer with the Village of Sturtevant. He was hired in 1973 as a police officer, was promoted to Sergeant in 1979, Captain in 1998, and was a longtime motorcycle cop – retiring in 2005 after 32 years of service.
Bob was very passionate about sports. Whether as a fan, on the field as a player, or at the sidelines as a coach, he could be found cheering or offering respectful suggestions to the umpire. As a youth, he played baseball, basketball and football, then transitioned into softball as an adult, which he played well into his 60’s. He coached his children in various sports, then continued to devote time coaching at Racine Lutheran High School. “Coach Mall” joined the Racine Lutheran coaching staff as a JV football coach in 1994 and as JV baseball coach in 1995. He was promoted to Varsity baseball coach in 1997 and led his first team all the way to win the WISAA Division 2 state championship. He and his treasured coaching staff led teams to conference championships in 2003, 2011, and 2017 and Bob was named Racine County Coach of the year in 1997, 2008, and 2017. In 2002, he successfully navigated the combining of the Lutheran and Prairie baseball teams into a cooperative program. Coach Mall deeply cared about his players on and off the field and considered them his “other sons.” He retired from coaching in 2018 after collecting 235 wins, making him the all-time winningest baseball coach in school history. After that, Bob dove into the world of semiprofessional soccer where he served as security for the Milwaukee WAVE for 12 years.
Bob enjoyed music of the 50’s & 60’s, could often be found cruising around on his Harley, and had a great appreciation for being out in the sunshine. Above all, Bob’s world revolved around his children, grandchildren (The Bonzos) favorite son and daughter in law, and his pal Alleycat. They were his everything! Bob will be most remembered by his family as a loving, compassionate, talkative guy who wore his heart on his sleeve.
Surviving are his daughter, Billie (Erik) Farrar; son, Robert (Diane) Mallwitz; grandchildren, Casey & Morgan Farrar and Amber Meka; former wife and forever friend, Connie Mallwitz & her daughter, Joanna (Scott) Maslanka; many other relatives, former student athletes, brothers & sisters in law enforcement, and friends – too numerous to mention by name.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by an infant sister, Mary Mallwitz; and sister, Debra Mallwitz, who died at the age of 40.

I grew up in Sturtevant and like many knew Bob growing up. Bob and I refereed parochial basketball together years later. Always sharing sports stories and having a good laugh. In 1998 I joined his coaching staff at Racine Lutheran. Coaching with him was a joy. I have fond memories of our time on the diamond together. Bob was always generous and quick with a joke. He was like a papa bear with his players. Always trying to coach them but also teach them life skills.
Rest easy Bob 🙏

I don’t ever recall seeing Bob when he wasn’t in a good mood. Whether he was on patrol on the motorcycle or motoring around the softball diamond, he always had a smile on his face. He passed his passions on to many that came after him. Rest in peace.

What an amazing person Bob was to me, and anyone who had met him. I had the pleasure of working with him, and being my Sgt. I started my dispatch/law enforcement career at Sturtevant PD, when I decided to become a Police Officer, he encouraged me and guided me along the way. When I was having a hard day or just needed someone to help me, he was there for me. He was an amazing man and an inspiration to those who crossed our paths. I had the pleasure of meeting Bob before his stroke, along with Carl and Gary, and talk about current lives and past memories. 35 years later, I am still doing the job that love so much. When I told Bob, that who would have guessed, that Chief Ronald Kittel’s grand-daughter Jenn is working with me, he was happy to hear that. Rest in Peace my dear friend.
Peter Jung says
My sincere condolences to Bob’s family. In 1989 then Sgt. Mallwitz gave me my first job in law enforcement as a dispatcher with Sturtevant PD. Bob was Community Policing in Sturtevant before that was a thing. I learned a lot from him and after I left would run into him and considered him a friend. I used to umpire in Racine and worked several games with Bob behind the plate. Very competitive, but always respectful. Several years ago I ran into him again as my son played HS baseball against RL. We spoke for several minutes and it was like old times. I’m sorry for your loss.
Willanetta Kittel says
So sorry for your loss, please don’t forget to take care of yourself, my prayers are with you.
