
RACINE – Robert Charles Baker, 86, passed away at All Saints Hospital on Monday, February 18, 2008. He was born in Green Bay on December 30, 1921, son of the late Charles and Lorretta (nee: Monet) Baker. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1938-1941. Bob lived in Rhinelander and was married to the former Ruth Halverson on May 24, 1952. The Bakers then moved to Racine. Bob was a painter by trade, and worked many years for Postorino Decorating, and several other local companies. His biggest accomplishment was to oversee the painting and decorating of the First Wisconsin Building in Milwaukee as it was being built. Bob enjoyed being with family and friends, camping, fishing, and spending weekends with the family in their mobile home at Lake Puckaway. After retiring he loved traveling, and spent many winters in New Port Richey, Florida. In Florida he loved to fish, play bocce ball, shuffleboard and socializing with friends. He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth; their children, Judith (William) Penn, and Carolyn Fitzgerald both of Racine, Cheryl (Lou) Verrecchia of Surprise, Arizona, and Charles (Gayle) Baker of Yakima, Washington; grandchildren, Thomas Penn of Racine, Denise Penn Gerressen of Anthem, Arizona; David (Donna) Penn of Scottsdale, Arizona, Laurie Penn (Justin) Moyer of San Francisco, California; James and Jeffery Fitzgerald both of Waterford, Jason Ashmore of Huntington Beach, California, and Christopher Baker of Lynden, Washington; 12 great grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. He was also preceded by his sister, Therese Lutsy, and granddaughter, Janet Fitzgerald. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 23, 2008. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held in the funeral home on Friday evening from 5-7 p.m. and Saturday beginning at 9:30 until 10:30a.m. The family would like to thank Dr. Howard Short and his staff for their compassion and care shown to Robert.
