Rosie L. Ross, 90, passed away at home on September 6, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. Born January 28, 1926 in Shelby, MS, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Alee and Cora (Buckner) Glass. Rosie was educated in schools in Shelby and Gunnison, MS. Rosie accepted Christ as her savior at the age of 11 and was united with the Old Grove Baptist Church in Gunnison, MS
In 1949 Rosie L. Glass was united in holy matrimony to Leatha Ross in Waukegan, IL. Their union was blessed with 11 children.
Rosie was employed at McWhyte Wire Rope as a bobbin threader for 15 years until her retirement in 1991.
In her leisure time she enjoyed spending time with and traveling with her sisters. She also loved gardening and enjoyed time with family, especially her grands, great-grands, and great-great grands.
After retirement she became a member of the Ethnic Elders, RSVP, Volunteer Grandparents, and worked with the latch-key kids at the Boys and Girls Club/ Lincoln Center.
Rosie was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Isiah Glass, a sister Lee Ether Netter, her husband Leatha Ross, sons Elbert, Jeffrey, and Lee Ross, grandchildren Antone M. Mason and Loura M. Ross, and great-grands Andre D. Ross Jr. and Sarah R. Brockman-Mason.
She leaves to cherish her memory 3 sisters, Cora M. Foster, Lillie M. Mitchell, and Wynette Green, all of Kenosha, WI; 2 brothers, Thomas C. Glass of Tacoma, WA and George Holmes of Milwaukee, WI. She is further survived by 4 daughters, Geraldine (Antone) Mason; Delorse (Earnest) Fuller; Yvonne Ross, and Anna Ross all of Kenosha, WI: 4 sons, Willie R. Ross, Norfolk, VA; Michael (Crystal) Ross, Lowell, AK; William C. Ross, Kenosha, WI; Wilfred E. Ross, Odenton, MD; step-daughter Verna Ross, Carol Stream, IL; step-son Rochester Ross, Chicago, IL; 17 grandchilden, 40 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great grandchildren.
Rosie will be missed by everyone whose lives she has touched.
A Celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 11:00am in the funeral home chapel. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10:00am until the time of service.
