Racine, WI. – Ruby Lee (nee: Jones) Shelby, was born on July 4, 1937, to Garland Jones and Lizzie Mae (nee: Armstrong) Cain in Charleston, Missouri. Ruby accepted Christ as her savior at the tender age of 1 and was united with The Baptist Church of Murphysboro.
Ruby attended Charleston High School in Charleston, Missouri. She later relocated to Racine, Wisconsin, where she education at Gateway Technical College in 1970. Ruby was employed by Acme Die Casting Corporation, as a machine Die Castor for over 32 years before retiring. She was a member of The Union Society where she previously held the office of President.
In Ruby’s free time she enjoyed cooking (her famous cornbread was so good, all the kids that thought it was cake). She also loved spending time with her family having Pokeno Nights, listening to music and dancing the night away. Ruby loved her some crossword puzzles (you couldn’t come visit without some in hand). She was a true football fanatic. She loved watching her western shows and karate movies. Ruby was a true believer in helping people, no matter your race or walk of life you’ve come from. She would feed you and open up her home if you needed a warm place to stay. To know Ruby was to love her, she was the most kind hearted, loving, giving person you would ever meet She will truly be missed by everyone who knew and loved her. In the words of Mrs. Ruby, “It’s not goodbye it’s Toodalou My Loves. “
Ruby departed life on September 2, 2021, at 10:53am she was preceded in death by her parents Garland Jones and Lizzie Mae Cain. Her husband Joe Willie Shelby. Brother Jimmie Ronald, sisters Picola, Ivory and Johnnie Mae. Daughter Calvella Shelby. Special Daughter Brenda. Friends Norman, Emma and Jessie.
Ruby L. Shelby is survived by her two sons Louis (Renee) Jones, Bobby (Catrina) Shelby Sr. and one daughter Diane (Robert) Shelby. step daughter Jacqueline Jones and special son Andra snow. Brothers Elbert (Brenda) and Willie. Sisters Glenda and Stella. Grandchildren Deondria, Lakesha, Quon, Bobby Jr, Julius, Andrea (Chris), Deonta, Uolanda, Crystal, Terrance, Jovon, Latieisha, Octavia and Candice, Jimmie 55 Great-Grandchildren and 5 Great-Great-Grandchildren. Special friend Vanessa McNeil. As well as a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends too numerous to name.
A Celebration of Her Life will be held on Thursday, September 16, 2021 12:00pm in the Chapel of Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home, 4600 County Line Rd., Racine, WI. Visitation will be in the Chapel from 10:00am until the time of service.
