Franklin – Samuel Donald Nehmey, 84, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 31, 2015. He was born on June 12, 1930, in Lorain, Ohio, son of the late John and Cecelia (nee: Shahraban) Nehmey.
Sam was united in marriage to the love of his life, Victoria Julia Butkowski, on September 9, 1950. Vickie preceded him in death on January 1, 2002.
Sam attended Lorain High School in Ohio. He also attended Kent State University in Ohio. Sam honorably and faithfully served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Following the war, he was a manager in the technical services group at BF Goodrich, now PolyOne, where he received six design patents during his career. He enjoyed watching the Cleveland Indians and Browns but his move to Wisconsin turned him into a Packers and Brewers fan.
Sam was a very proud grandpa and very involved in his grandchildren’s activities. He was a volunteer at many places such as the Franklin Meal Site where he was known as the “Pan Man”, and also St. Alphonsus Catholic Church where he would do anything that was needed. Sam was a card shark and loved to play cards, especially Poker, Sheepshead, and Gin. He rarely would lose and anyone who beat him proudly kept their scorecard. Above all, he cherished his family and treasured the time spent with them. Sam will be dearly missed.
To cherish his memory, Sam leaves his children, Janice Shulman of South Milwaukee, John (Diane) Nehmey of Oak Creek, Ronald (Shelley Ryan) Nehmey of South Milwaukee; grandchildren, Alyssa (Matt “with two T’s” Jancaitis) of Madison, Samuel Nehmey of Oak Creek, Lizzy Nehmey of Oak Creek; special friends and caregivers, Connie Myer and Marlene Chojnacki; other relatives and dear friends too numerous to mention.
In addition to his parents and wife, Sam is preceded in death by his two sisters, Eleanor Lassen and Mary Sharick.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 8, 2015, 12:00pm, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 6060 W. Loomis Road, Greendale, with Rev. Kevin Barnekow officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00am until the time of the mass. In accordance with Sam’s wishes, cremation will follow.
