Racine – Sherry Horton, age 69, passed away on Tuesday, November 1, 2022 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Sherry was born in Racine on November 26, 1952 to the late Francis and Louise (nee: Maxon) Sprague. She graduated from Washington Park High School. Sherry was employed by Racine Labor Paper for 25 years, where she became the first female editor. Following, she served as secretary for Local 180 for 22 years, retiring in 2020. Sherry was a true lover of animals and, as an avid reader, a faithful friend of the Racine Public Library.
Surviving is the love of her life for 47 years, Gary Horton; brothers, Rick and David Sprague; other relatives and friends, including her beloved neighbors.
In addition to her parents, Sherry was preceded in death by Gary’s parents, Adelbert & Gwen Horton; and sister-in-law, Dianna (Dieter) Vujadinovic.

I heard about the passing of my Aunt yesterday. I was at work when I got the text. I started crying instantly because we were once very close for awhile. I wish I would of kept in contact with her all these years. I feel so bad that I didn’t. I will not be able to attend the funeral because I have covid at the moment. That makes it even more painful. I love you Aunt Sherry. Always have always will. RIH. I’m soo sorry this happened Uncle Gary. My condolences to you and the rest of the family. If you ever need someone to talk to I’m here. My email is hsprague@ymail.com I can give you my number in the email. I love you too. Prayers to you and everyone.

At Racine Labor Sherry held it together until the end putting in many unpaid hours. She wrote an editorial suggesting a Labor Woman of the Year Award at Laborfest. The good old boy labor leaders of Racine sent us a letter saying she was out of line. I was President of the board & Carol Olsen was Vice-President. We responded Sherry was right on. At UAW Local 180 she took care of everything before you even thought about something that needed attention. Sherry already had it done. Conscientios & caring Sherry was the best.

I picked up a book from the public library in Janesville, on loan from Ravine. A note in front says it was given in memory of Sherry by Gary. I never knew Sherry, but I will keep her memory alive through reading. My love and sympathy to all who knew her.
