Racine – Shirley Ann (Thomas) Scott entered into the presence of her Lord on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, surrounded by family. Shirley was born March 24, 1953, in Chicago, Illinois, daughter of the late Joseph and Alma Lee (Henderson) Thomas. She grew up in Bessemer, Alabama and returned to Chicago after marrying William C. Scott Sr. on July 27, 1970. Looking for more opportunities for their family, Shirley and Will made their home in Racine, Wisconsin in 1978. Shirley worked various jobs over the years, a telephone operator at Wisconsin Bell and AT&T, retiring from Ascension after working in the lab, cash management, and finally hospital cashier.
Shirley accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior in 1982, her life and the lives of her family were forever changed. She was a devoted follower and a gifted teacher who shared her calling through prison ministry, bible study groups, Sunday School, and home study groups. Shirley’s solid foundation in Christ was an example that drew family and friends to faith.
Shirley had a generous spirit that will be felt for generations to come. She believed in putting her faith into action. She and Will opened their home and were foster parents for years to many children who, for years afterwards greeted her as Mother Shirley! More than anything, she loved spending time with family. She relished every opportunity to gather with her children, family, and friends and tried not to miss a family reunion, whether close or requiring a road trip. In recent years she and her siblings vacationed together each summer.
She will be dearly missed by her husband of fifty-four years, Will; her children, Regina (Ted) Scott Brooks, William C. (Tonia) Scott Jr., Reginald T. (Laura) Scott, Rachel A. Scott, Deborah L.
