Racine – Stanley L. West, 73, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Saturday, May 28, 2011. He was born in Clarkfield, Minnesota on May 4, 1938, son of the late Oscar and Anna (nee: Thorson) West. Stan was married on September 6, 1958 to Marlene Marie King in Redwood Falls, Minnesota.
Stan graduated from Augsburg College in 1960. His early years on the family farm instilled a work ethic that was demonstrated throughout his entire career in the agricultural industry. He held sales and marketing positions with International Harvester, JI Case, and consulting engagements with Miller-St. Nazianz, and Metko right up to the time of his passing. He could count on one hand the number of days he did not feel like going to work. Although Stan was very devoted to his work, he above all was a loyal and dedicated father who valued his time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Marlene; their children, Lisa (Bernhard) Kleine of Gurnee, Illinois, Michael (Paula) West of LaGrange, Illinois, and Stephanie (Jon) Mirkes of DePere, Wisconsin; nine grandchildren; brother, Ralph (Sandy) West; and sister, Shirley (Dan Bartus) Shawd.
Funeral services will be held in the Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 3, 2011. Visitation will be on Thursday evening from 5-8 p.m., and Friday morning beginning at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Stan’s memory may be made to the Kidney Cancer Association.
Stan’s medical care during his final days was entrusted to Dr. Mark Choi and the staff at WFH All Saints. His family would like to thank them for their kindness and compassion.
Becky (West) Hamm says
Our deepest sympathy to you Marlene and your family at this time of loss. As a child, I remember watching Stanley on "Educational Television" (as it was called back then) while sitting in my 4th grade classroom (at Clarkfield of course)! He was talking about "tractors" as I recall. Back in the mid-60's this was quite a "big deal" in the West family. I didn't have a chance to know him very well..but this memory remains strong! We are thinking of you so often these days. May God give you strength. –Don and Becky Hamm

Stanley was a fellow Clarkfield Cardinal, a fellow Augsburg College graduate, a supportive first cousin, and a Brother in Christ from rural Spring Creek Lutheran Church. "Rest eternal grant him, O Lord; and let light perpetual shine upon him."
