Suzanne “Sue” M. Zellmer, 71, of Racine, passed away at Accent Care Hospice, Oak Creek, on Wednesday, January 11, 2023. She was born in Fond du Lac, WI on August 9, 1951, the daughter of the late Edgar and Doris (nee: Wapp) Theyerl.
Sue graduated from Goodrich High School in Fond du Lac, Class of ’69. She and Jerome Zellmer met in the Marquis Drum and Bugle Corps where she was the Drum Major and he was the Drum Instructor. On April 17, 1971, in St. Mary Catholic Church, Fond du Lac, they united in marriage.
Sue loved gardening, cheering for all the Wisconsin sports teams, playing cards, going to casinos, dressing up and going out to dinner. She enjoyed a glass of wine, cooking a wonderful meal for those she cared about, and above all cherished and was proud of her family.
Surviving are her husband, Jerry; their sons, Dru Zellmer, and his partner, Nyki Mamerow of Franklin, WI, Jason, and his partners, Tony Brown and Chris Gazzara; grandson, Matthew Zellmer-Brown, all of Leeds, MA; sisters, Kate (John) Dunton, of Sun Tan Valley, AZ, and Diane (Tom) Frank, of Wausau, WI; brothers, Mark (Diane) Theyerl, of Rosendale, WI, and Bill (Josie) Theyerl, of Fond du Lac, WI; brother-in-law, Allen Zellmer, of Spring Hill FL; sister-in-law, Sue Theyerl, of Waupaca, WI. In addition to her parents, Edgar and Doris, Sue was preceded in death by her brother Steve Theyerl; and sisters-in-law, Donna Hansen and Carolee Zellmer.

Sue and I were very close as sister and brother. We were in high school at the same time and she showed me the ropes. I got invited to all the senior parties as a sophomore (lucky me) and met many of her friends. Sue was liked by all who met her. She had my dad’s work ethic and our mom’s culinary skills. The Theyerl’s know how to cook and eat!
Sue was also very generous. I will always be very grateful for Sue and Jerry allowing me to live with them for a whole year while I attended UW Parkside, when they were newlyweds. ( I tried to stay out of there way) Yikes! Every Monday night we would order a pizza and watch Monday night football together. I cherished those times and they had great pizza down there.
Diane and I will always remember all the family holiday parties, food, fun, Santa gifts and jokes, (another Theyerl trait oh-boy the jokes).
Diane and I loved Sue very much and she will be missed greatly. Rest in peace sweetie!

We have fond memories of Sue (and Jerry) going to softball games to watch ‘the boys’ play. Sue was such an enthusiastic fan in the stands (never sure what might come out of her lungs). There was a group of us in our 40s that got together for fun times and Sue was often the ‘life of the party’. We enjoyed the backyard swim get-togethers at their house and Sue’s ability to make everyone feel welcomed. As often happens, the years move on, we go on different paths, but the memories remain. Thoughts go out to Jerry and family during this time.

My dear cousin Sue ,Susie to me what a beautiful person. So many memories come back to me . She was always the hip cousin, knew the latest songs and trends.
When she came to Plymouth to stay with us we would go sledding and ice skating and just had fun! She was the lucky one who looked like our grandmother that we never got to meet. She had passed away very young. Beautiful lady!! I’m so sorry for your loss my cousins. She is at rest now.

My dear sister Sue. You weren’t just a good sister; you were a “GREAT” sister in so many ways! Sue was bigger than life in my eyes. I remember my early childhood with her, sharing a room with both my sisters. There were always many laughs, tears and tales of Sue’s adventures told by one of the best storytellers ever. With all six children upstairs in our big house and the parents’ downstairs, there was some wild things that happened up there😊 You know, what happens upstairs, stays upstairs!!!
Both of my sisters moved away shortly after they graduated, and that room was never the same for me. Chores on Saturday were made palatable by Sue tuning in the latest hot new music on her transistor radio. Always making time to stop and dance.
As we grew up, I watched Sue refine her style and I only wished I could be as cool as her. All through our adult lives, I looked forward to our gatherings for family time on holidays, summer campouts, and just hanging out. Sue could tell jokes better than almost anyone, except our dad! Jerry, Tom and I thank you for being Sue’s protector during your time together and all her medical trials. You have been the best brother-in-law and will always have a special place in our family. Sending my loving condolences to you and all the boys, Diane and Tom

My heart is heavy hearing of the passing of a great cousin and a greater woman. I always enjoyed our FaceBook discussions of everything from music (thanks, Nick & Lulu) to politics (kindred spirits). Sue was very dear to me. My trips to Merrill Ave. were always fun, thanks in great part, to her and her infectious laughter. My hope is that Jerry and the boys will find deep peace soon and that wherever she is floating in the cosmos, her big brother will be with her.

Jerry and Sue were my parents neighbors. As my parents aged, it gave me comfort that they had neighbors that looked after them. My mom always loved the cookie tray she got at Christmas and even shared with all of us.
