I am sitting at home now listening to Famous Blue Raincoat, Leonard Cohen penned songs performed exceptionally well by Jennifer Warnes. She sang with Joe Cocker “Up Where We Belong”.
“There are Mountains ……..” Joe Cocker sings and Walter conquered many mountains in the fifteen years I worked with him. The most courteous man I ever meet and the most willing to assist at anytime of day or night, really anytime.
I recall chatting (texting) over the web with my friend Walter on a very early Wisconsin morning in late Fall and suddenly the responses from Walter ceased. “Walter are you there?” I texted (cut and paste) three times with no response, very unlike this dedicated gentleman. Being concerned I rang his mobile number it rang and rang. Then as if awoken from a deep sleep I received a very drawn out “Walter here can……can I help”. “Walter it’s me, Greg in Australia” a few seconds passed, “Are you OK” to which this man responded, a little more coherently this time, “sorry I fell asleep where were we”.
Yes we had many long conversations and I learnt so much from this man of “networks” that it made looking after the Twinpac network challenging and enjoyable (for an Accountant untrained in such things) solving together many IT networking issues at all times of the day and night in both Wisconsin and Australia.
So Walter was also a very patient teacher, he taught me well.
I truely miss him and I know that very many, many people in his life will miss him.
A colleague, a friend an honest gentleman, my condolences to his wife, children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
