
MOUNT PLEASANT – Mr. Wesley H. Pottinger, 92, passed away at his residence on Thursday, May 14, 2015.
He was born in Racine on June 14, 1922, the son of the late Robert G. and Mabel M. (nee: Thompson) Pottinger. Wesley proudly served his nation with US Navy during WWII and Korea as well as a long career with US Postal service following his military duty. While in the Navy he was stationed mostly in the South Pacific as a chief petty officer. On November 14, 1959 he married Shirley R. Helvick. She preceded him in death on September 16, 2000.
Wesley was a faithful longtime member of the Salvation Army, the V.F.W. and American Legion posts, the Forty and Eight and the Racine Yacht Club. He was enjoyed bowling, golfing and watching the Cubs and Packers.
He is survived by his daughters, Joanne (Fred) Yost, Rose Pottinger both of Mount Pleasant; his grandchildren, John Robinson of Racine, Kristy (Kyle) Bohrer of Sturtevant and Katie (Thomas) Obry of Racine; his great grandchildren; Jordan Marie, Nicholas, Olivia, Kyle, Jr., Jonah, Grant and Vivian; his brother and sister, Ernest (Beverly) Pottinger of Florida, Gloria Pottinger of Mount Pleasant; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his sisters and brothers, Majel Geschke, Judith Muniz, Robert, Edward (his twin), and George Pottinger.
Family and friends are invited to meet at Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 for a visitation from 10:30 am – 11:30 am. A service honoring and celebrating his life will follow at 11:30 a.m. and will conclude with military honors. A private interment will take place at West Lawn Memorial Park. Memorials have been suggested to the Salvation Army.
