
Racine – William John Rowlands, 82, passed away at All Saints Hospital on Tuesday, March 10, 2009. He was born on August 7, 1926, son of the late Frank and Edna (nee: Evans) Rowlands. He was a life long resident of Racine. William honorably served our country as a soldier in the Army from 1944-1946. On August 30, 1947 he was united in marriage to Helen Katibian at St. Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church. Following his discharge from the Army, William owned and operated Aladdin Floral along with his brother, Court. He later worked as a machinist and assistant foreman at Twin Disc, and retired after more than 20 years of service. He was a lifelong golfer, and enjoyed playing in many local golf leagues. He was a supporter of the Racine Kilties, and often chaperoned their many trips to drum corps shows across the U.S. After his retirement, he and Helen enjoyed traveling and many trips to Las Vegas and other exciting places. Above all he enjoyed being with his family and friends. William is survived by his dear wife, Helen; and their son Bruce Rowlands; granddaughter, Jennifer Rowlands; and former daughter-in-law, Gayle Rowlands all of Racine. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Margaret (Jack) Marshall of Neshkoro; brother-in-law Peter (Joan) Katibian of Racine; as well as many other relatives and friends. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Courtney (Blossom) Rowlands, Don Rowlands; and sister, Lois Rowlands. The memorial service for William will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 with Rev. Crystal L. Steinberg officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:30a.m. Private interment will take place at a later date in the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
