Racine – William Joseph Huck, age 89, passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday evening, September 5, 2017, surrounded with the love of family.
Bill was born in Burlington, WI on April 24, 1928 to the late Mathias Joseph and Amy (nee: Bennett) Huck. He graduated from St. Catherine’s High School in 1946. Immediately following, Bill faithfully served our country with the United States Marine Corps from 1946-48.
On February 14, 1953 at St. Edward’s Rectory, he was united in marriage with the love of his life, Marcia E. (nee: Bethke). To this union, 10 wonderful children were born. Bill was employed by Western Publishing for over 34 years, retiring in 1984. He was an active member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church since 1967, Knights of Columbus Council #697, several investment clubs and proud member of AA. Among his interests, he (in his earlier years) was a chaperone/bus driver for the Kiltie Kadets; enjoyed playing cards – especially Schafskopf; reading, walking, fishing, grilling out, bird watching, gardening and had been dabbling in the stock market since 1961. Bill and Marcia traveled quite extensively throughout the years and they enjoyed sharing their memorable travel stories with others. Above all, Bill was a true family man who cherished being in the surroundings of all his loved ones.
Surviving are his loving wife of nearly 65 years, Marcia; their children, Barbara (Robert) Witek, Patricia (Robin) Bartlett, Mary (John Reidenbach) Huck, Michael (Patti Kunicki) Huck, Joseph (Victor Montes) Huck, James (Paula) Huck, Robert (Teresa Calliari) Huck and David Huck; daughter-in-law, Carol Kenyon; grandchildren, Catherine (Kevin), Nora, Amber (Bernard), Amy (Matt), Ashley, Lauren (Scott), Megan (Tim) and Angela (Brett); great-grandchildren, Morgan and Collin; sister, Ann DeBrabander; sisters-in-law, Ellen Huck and Dolores Bethke; nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends – too numerous to mention all by name.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his beloved sons, Matthew and John Huck; grandson, Kevin Witek; great-granddaughter, Lily Gabbey; brother, Edward Huck; sister, Margaret (Gerry) Asmann; Marcia’s parents, Emil and Martha (nee: Weitkum) Bethke; and brothers-in-law, Arthur DeBrabander; Gerald and Marvin Bethke.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at 11:00 am at Saint Paul the Apostle Catholic Church (6400 Spring Street). A luncheon will follow. Private interment, with military honors, will take place at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be at St. Paul the Apostle Church (6400 Spring Street) on Wednesday afternoon from 3:00 – 6:00 pm and on Thursday from 10-11 am. Memorials to NAMI, HALO or AA have been suggested.
