Racine, WI – Wilma F. (nee: Cobb) Rogers, born March 8, 1936 in Ecru, Mississippi, was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 6, 2020, at the age of 84. Wilma moved to Racine, Wisconsin as a young child. She graduated from William Horlick High School where she was the first African American to be appointed to the homecoming court and a member of several school organizations.
Wilma accepted Christ at a young age and was a faithful member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church. Over the years, she served the Lord tirelessly in the Sunday School, Usher Board, Women’s Fellowship, Deaconess and Kitchen Committee. She was united in holy matrimony with Claude Rogers on January 19, 1957. They were blessed with two children: Randy and Sandra. As an advocate for equal rights, Wilma was the first African American employee at First National Bank where she was affectionately known as Wilma from the Bank. She retired from Chase Bank as an Executive Assistant in 2006 after over 40 years of dedicated service. Wilma was active in her community volunteering at the Racine County Food Bank, YWCA, and as an election worker. She was a member of the Racine Garden Club, Southside Senior Knitting & Quilting Club and NAACP. In her leisure time she enjoyed baking, washing dishes, gardening, sewing, and spending time with her sisters.
She leaves to cherish sweet memories: son, Randy (Robbin) Rogers; daughter, Sandra (Chuck Moss) Rogers; sisters, Betty Thomas, Beverly Hicks and Janet Mitchell; brothers, Paul Cobb and Gary (Octavia Elaine) Cobb; sisters-in-law, Daisy Williams, Gloria Rogers, Wilma D. Rogers, Wanda Cobb and Nola Starling-Cobb; brother-in-law, Leslie (Patricia) Rogers; grandson, Jeremy Boykin; three great-granddaughters; a host of nieces, nephews and other dear relatives and friends. Wilma was proceeded in death by her parents, Troy and Mozell Cobb; brothers, O.C., Ronald and Troy Cobb Jr. and sisters, Dorothy and Vicki Cobb. Special thanks to her caregivers Joe Ann and Vicki who made it possible for Wilma to spend her final days in her home.

Dear Ms. Wilma,
I am really going to MISS you. We had some good times visiting your sisters and I got lost, you laugh so hard that day. Our weekly visits to Culvers for lunch and just going for rides at night. I love you so much and then I got that early morning text from Randy seemed like I was dreaming I couldn’t believe what I was reading. Well now you are with your family, no more heartache and pain. God got other plans for you now, and the work you did here, God is saying job well done. I Love and Miss You.
My God bless Sandra and Randy in their time of need.

I have found memories of she and I working at St Paul Bapist Church, where we were both members, having worked on the Usher Board and Sunday School programs under the direction of Rose Wiggins. I really don’t know where to begin. I’ve known “Wilm” since I was a little girl through my grandmother Mrs. Queen Hudson and our sisters were friends.
During my early adult years we worked together. She had so much financial knowledge and poured it into me. She also exhibited her love of The Lord by teaching me how to handle unkind people with silence. I must admit I didn’t always do as she taught.
She was Grandma Wilma to my girls. She babysat Michelle and taught her to knit, crochet and make blankets., to mention a few.
We have so many fond memories and stories of Wilm. We loved her dearly and she loved us too.
Randy and Sandy thanks for sharing your kind and loving mom with us! Please know that my prayers are with you. As I’ve communicated, if you ever need me I’m just a phone call away. May the Blessings Be!!!
